A dramatic Victorian mourning pin beautifully made in black onyx and seed pearls with embellishments in 14k.
The rectangular bar is black onyx, well polished to a high shine and subtly sculpted so the surface is slightly concave.
The gold work has five bead set seed pearls in square settings and two smaller pearls at the curled wire ends. It is cemented into the drilled onyx, the findings are also drilled and cemented.
There was something attached at the bottom as there is a third gold cap with what might have been a hinge.
It measures 2" by .5" and 3/16" thick, the gold and pearl embellishment is 1.5" by 3/8".
The gold design is not centered, one side is 1/8" closer to the edge, no distraction.
Condition is excellent, very clean, white lines are glare off the shiny surface.
Catch is the tube C style, the pin stem is the hinged tube style.
Clearly marked 14k on the gold, the pin stem is not gold.
A fine example of an antique mourning pin.
