Carved Wooden Springerle Cookie Mold - 19th C
This old wooden springerle/cookie mold/board measures 5 1/4" high x 3 1/2" wide and is 7/8" thick. It's not marked, but is likely German. It has six deeply carved and detailed panels ...an anchor, swimming bird/swan/duck, a bird on a branch, a vegetable (turnip?), a flower or walnut with leaves, and a deer with antlers. Not sure what type of wood it's carved from, but it's a heavy, dense wood, the mold weighs just under 8 oz. With a nice nut-brown patina, it shows various small dings and dangs from years of use, there's a stable crack at the bottom right (deer panel). Wonderful for holiday baking or display with butter molds, cookie cutters, and other old kitchenware.
