Metal ship bell inscribed SS Volendam. Wall mount. The Volendam was built in 1922 and owned by Holland American Lines, sailed as a cruise ship until 1940. She then was used as a merchant transport until 1945 when she went into military service until 1951. Was scrapped in 1952. Measures 6 3/8 inches tall overall to the top of the scone. Bell itself is 4 7/8 inches diameter at the bottom rim, approximately 2 1/4 inches diameter at the top shoulder. I presume it's brass although much of the color has worn off over the years - please see photo. Although the finish is worn, there is no rust. Has a really loud ring. Great maritime collectible.
