Stout and hefty, very old late 1880s, drip glaze jug or vase. The color is a bright orange gold with darker drips and runs and discolorations in the glaze inherent in the pottery from this kiln and age. The bottom has the Sanpei flag and Japan incised in the clay. Measures 9 3/4 inches tall, about 10 inches across from the outside (not circumference), top rim is 6 1/2 inches diameter, bottom is 5 1/2 inches diameter. There is a small chip on the top inside rim - see photograph, otherwise in very good condition.
