L. E. Smith Glass - No. 1136 Handled Basket - Diamond and Leaf Pattern
Offering this extra nice L. E. Smith Glass handled basket. This piece is in great shape, no damage that I can see or feel. The size is 10" Tall X 7-1/2" Long X 5" Wide. This basket is heavy, weighing 2 pounds 13 ounces.
Smith called this their No. 1136 Heritage basket. In the early 1950's Smith acquired a large number of McKee Glass molds which Smith used to make milk glass pieces and they named them Heritage. Shortly after that they began using the McKee molds plus molds from Smith designs to make pieces in crystal clear and it was called, American Heritage. After that and into the 1960's this proved to be successful, the Line was again renamed and it was called the Great American Crystal Collection.
The mold design for this basket was from the McKee Glass Innovation Line which was originally introduced from 1917 to 1920. The McKee Company used numerous designs to press the Innovation Line and the No. 417 basket was the inspiration for this Smith No. 1136 Heritage design. There are some changes from the original issue. The handle was originally a twisted one and this one is smooth. This basket is 10 inches tall to the top of the handle. The original No. 417 was also made in an 8 inch size and a 12 inch size according to my references.
