1920's - 1930's Blue Stoneware Crock Bowl - Art Deco - Drape - White Hall

This is one mighty fine stoneware bowl made in the Midwest during the Art Deco Period from about 1925 until 1940. This country blue cylindrical bowl is in excellent condition totally free from any damage. Not even an age crack. There are a few tiny flaws which is usual with utilitarian stoneware. The blue glaze is extra nice too. The white spots and what looks like light colored rings or flaws on the picture of the inside bottom are only reflections. The inside of the bowl is smooth and glossy, even in the "corners".

I live within 50 miles of White Hall and I have seen this bowl offered now and then at Illinois auctions. Most auctions offer it as a Ruckels manufactured piece. Ruckels was a well-known stoneware manufacturer from White Hall, Illinois. White Hall is on Route 67 North of Jerseyville and South of Jacksonville on the West side of Illinois about 10 miles East of the Illinois River, in Greene County. There were many stoneware manufacturers in White Hall and the surrounding area back in the day. At one time in Illinois, there were over 400 stoneware potting companies. I have also researched other claims and have found that others give credit to Monmouth-Western Stoneware Co., another well-known Illinois stoneware maker. Sometimes this patterned bowl has an acorn like impression on the bottom and inside the acorn is embossed with, Made In USA. This one I have does not have any marking or impression and has a smooth unglazed bottom. The Uhl Pottery Company of Huntington, Indiana, uses an acorn in their logo but I don't think this bowl was made by Uhl either. I am leaning towards Ruckels. It is the right color, and the right shape.

The size is 7-1/2" OD X 3-1/2" Tall

This is a beauty and it could proudly sit on your collector's shelf. I don't think you will find a nicer one.

Enjoy your day but, don't let this one get away!

Thanks for looking!
