Norcrest China Company Open Butter Sauce Handled Cup - Dresden Rose Pattern. The Dresden Rose pattern was Made In Japan and imported by the Norcrest China Company, the Naito family owned business of Portland, Oregon.
What a nice piece to add to your Norcrest Dresden Rose dinnerware set. A popular china replacement service calls this item, an Open Butter Sauce. In excellent, like new condition as manufactured. This was an estate find and it was stored with other pieces of this pattern in a cabinet. Never used. I have seen other pieces of the Dresden Rose pattern from time to time but, this is the only Butter Sauce cup I have ever seen.
It will hold about eight ounces and measures just shy of 2-1/2" Tall and has a 3-1/2" opening. From front to end of handle is about 5-1/2". The base measures 2-1/16" across and the little prop knob measures 1/4".
The Norcrest Number on the bottom is NW-6/682DR.
I believe the Dresden Rose china was produced during the 1960's give or take a few years either way. This pattern reminds me of the many Moss Rose patterns that were so popular during the 1950's and 1960's.
Some Norcrest History from several internet sources. Hide Naito started an import business in Portland, Oregon, in the 1920's. His son Sam joined his father after WWII and in 1952 Sam's brother Bill also joined them in the family's operation. In 1958 the company was Incorporated and named the Norcrest China Company. They ran this thriving import business for some years while also acquiring other vacant or neglected historic buildings in downtown Portland in order to renovate them into viable businesses. Norcrest China Company became both a successful property development company and was still in business with their import business until 2004 when the Norcrest Wholesale Division closed.
