Vintage - Tuscan China Tea Cup and Saucer Set - England - Violets
Presenting a nice Tuscan Works, tea set with a Violets theme. Purple and yellow violets decorate this cup and saucer and the scallops all around are trimmed in gold. The pretty floral decoration is a decal and is fired on a soft white porcelain body. The pattern number is C9268 but I do not know if it has a name or not. Many Tuscan patterns only have a number.
CONDITION: No chips, dings, stains, or cracks. Slight wear on the gold trim of the saucer on two of the scallops right next to each other. I have a photo of the very little amount of wear on the trim. I imagine this was from propping the saucer on a display shelf or in a cabinet. The cup has no wear on the gold trim at all.
SIZE: 5-3/4" saucer, 4" width on the cup, 3-1/2" OD cup rim
This set was produced by the Tuscan Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England, between 1947 and 1966.
The company was known as R H & S L Plant Ltd. Richard Hammersley Plant and his brother Simon Lucas Plant owned the company as a partnership. Harold John Plant (Richard's son) and Frederick Sutton Plant (Simon's son) succeeded their fathers in the management of the business. Frederick died in 1939 leaving the business to Harold who managed the company until his death in 1960. Harold's son, Richard Plant, managed the business until 1966. RH & SL Plant was taken over by the Wedgwood Group around 1972.
