Imperial Glass Early American Hobnail Ruby Red Ivy Ball or Rose Bowl ~ 1930's Depression Elegant Glass

This Ruby Red beauty is often listed as a Fenton piece or even a Duncan Miller issue but it is definitely an elegant Imperial Glass ivy ball.

The Fenton hobnail pieces have pointy hobs which differ from the Imperial and the Duncan Miller hobnail pieces. The Imperial and the Duncan hobs are more rounded and somewhat flatter. Both the Fenton and the Duncan ivy ball vases have a plain foot unlike this Imperial which has a reverse hobnail foot. The Fenton and the Duncan Miller ivy ball doesn't have the smooth ring around the opening and their hobs go all the way to the top.

Imperial called their hobnail, Early American Hobnail in the 1920's and 1930's. I believe Imperial also called this Dew Drop. This ivy ball is from that age and it is not marked. Imperial did not always mark their early glass. Imperial's first colors in the Early American Hobnail were crystal, amber, Ritz Blue, Golden Ophir, Stiegel Green, Rose Marie (pink), Ruby, and Black. This is a dark, rich, ruby red.

CONDITION: I can't find any damage on this ball vase. No chips, cracks, nicks, or repairs and no water stains.

SIZE: 6-1/8" tall x 3-5/16" base diameter. Approximately 3-3/4" wide bowl. This was made from a four part mold.

In doing research on this piece I found the Imperial part number could be either 741 or 742. The vase is also shown in several different colors on page 718 in Imperial Glass Encyclopedia Volume III, M - Z.

This is elegant glass from the Depression Era.
