Dramatic, exquisite, and extremely rare circa 1880 antique French Limoges porcelain clock with hand painted romantic scene on front, roses, and sea foam green sides decorated with rose bouquets. The rare 17-inch clock case is the largest clock mold that Limoges made, extremely ornate with scalloped and gilded edges, and curved out in front. The scrolls and curves in the lower front resemble a heart. The clock stands 17 inches tall, is 10-3/4 inches wide, and is 6-1/4 inches deep. The clock face is gold metal with a hinged beveled glass door, all intact. SF is written on the top center of clock face. The clock workings are all original and need a cleaning. I have not attempted to run the clock. Condition of porcelain is mint with no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. Beautiful, immaculate condition for an antique 134 years old. One was featured on the cover of Mary Frank Gaston's Limoges book published in 2000, valued then at $5,000, with the smaller clock mold at $2,000. The identical large clock featured in her book was made at the Bawo and Dotter factory (Elite Works) in France. Many of the Limoges clocks were not marked in the factory, as is the case with this clock. This is an investment quality antique clock case, made in France by Limoges.
