This is a homey antique 21" tall German Kestner flat top hair style china head doll dressed in an antique mottled brown wool tweed dress with matching cape. The doll has a chunky home made cloth body that feels like it is stuffed with cotton. Under her cape the dress bodice and sleeves are accented with a muted green silk twill. Underneath she has white cotton pantaloons and petticoat and black stockings.
The shoulder head alone is 7" tall, 6.5" across the shoulders, and approximately 4" deep at the base.
Condition: The china head is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There is one manufacturing aberration next to her nose that looks like an indentation, or perhaps a spot that missed being glazed. One point of her cape collar is worn. Her pantaloons have a crudely stitched repair in the crotch area. The body has wear typical for its age, but is intact.
She is a great example of a Civil War era china head doll. If only she could tell us her stories.
