This is an unusual antique Chinese export sterling silver flower brooch. It is marked with unidentified Chinese maker's marks on the back. The metal tests positive for silver content of sterling grade. The brooch has a standard pin stem and an old fashioned trombone style clasp. There are 3 flower petals or leaves with twisted tips. Each petal has an engraved leaf texture and is studded with tiny dots. tendrils of silver curl in between the petals, and a curving stem finishes the other side. The top curve of stem on one end can also serve as a bail so the brooch can be worn as a pendant on a chain.
The brooch weighs 5.9 gr. It measures 2.375" x 1.25".
Condition is overall good. I note that the pin stem is slightly crooked.
The naturalistic form of this flower or leaf cluster is very pleasing. It is surely a unique hand made piece. I estimate that it dates from circa 1900.
