“All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
This is a stunning antique Victorian 14K yellow gold photograph locket with Etruscan revival style granulation and turquoise stones, suspended from a 14K gold bar pin brooch. There are no markings. Both the brooch and the locket test positive for 14-15K gold. The chain that connects them tests as sterling with a gold finish.
The locket has fittings inside to hold 2 photographs, one on each side. The glass covers are intact on both sides. There are tiny initials engraved inside the locket on the edge of each side - J.N.Y. The locket closes and opens nicely. the locket is set with 9 turquoise stones on the front. The back is plain.
The brooch is set with 5 small turquoise cabochons. It has the original pin stem with T hinge and a hooded catch to protect the point.
The total weight is 19.2 gr. The locket alone without bail measures 1.625" tall x 1.25" across x .25" deep. The brooch measures 1.75" long by .25". Total combined height is 2.875".
Condition is good. In my opinion the brooch and the locket have been very nicely married up a long time ago. The locket is more of a rosy gold color and the brooch is a brighter yellow gold. The connecting chain is not a match to either in style or metal content, but serves its purpose well. It would be a simple thing to remove the locket to wear it separately on a chain, and have the brooch as a bonus. They came to me together so I am selling them in this combination.
Offers considered, except on Red Tag sale items and on items with final reductions.
