This is a gorgeous early 1800s Georgian period carved scenic cameo of 2 women, and set in Whitby jet, with an old fashioned brooch back with T hinge and C clasp. The cameo depicts one woman as seated and holding a long garland of flowers in her lap. The other woman is standing and is wearing an unusual large hat. Stone buildings, fencing and trees are seen int he background. The jet setting is faceted around the sides and flat in back. The pin back is brass.
The brooch measures 2.25" x 1.875" across.
Condition: There are 2 very faint lines visible in the background sky area of the cameo, not cracks but mentioned for complete accuracy. On the back there are chips in the jet next to the T hinge. No other defects noted.
This is a beautiful and uncommon early cameo brooch.
