This is a very unusual antique carved wood flying angel doll figure with pierced metal wings. He is probably of Indonesian origin, but still researching. The figure measures almost 15" from top of head to bottom foot, 12.5" from wing tip to tip, and 7.5" deep at waist to raised back foot. The body is carved wood with some applied decorations and painted overall. It looks like the head and torso were carved from 1 piece of wood. The arms and lower legs were carved separately and then attached. The flying sash on the torso was also carved separately and then attached, and the sash is missing on his left side. The metal wings are decoratively pierced, curved and then painted. There is a metal hanging loop inserted into the center back. There is also a hole in the top of the head perhaps from a previous mounting method. A previous owner has written "To Brian From Grandad" on the back of his shoulders.
Condition: One sash is missing. Wear and aging to painted finish.
If you fancy the unique, I doubt you will find another like this one anytime soon. And he has such a lovely happy smiling face to cheer your day.
