This is a finely crafted pair of 9" tall circa 1900 Mexican cloth dolls, representing a man and woman couple in indigenous costume. They both have very detailed facial features and hands with individual fingers.
The gentleman is dressed in a tan suit with jacket and pants trimmed in leather on sides of pants and jacket cuffs, plus metallic embroidery. He has a serape scarf over one shoulder and a large black wool felt sombrero. His shoes are brown leather. His hair is black velvet. Notice his embroidered pencil thin mustache too.
The lady is dressed in a red and tan skirt embellished with a Mexican eagle symbol, sequins, rick rack, and decorative stitching. This is topped by a shirred blouse wrapped in a scarf that crosses in back and forms the side straps and belt in front. Her undergarments include pantaloons, petticoat and blue leather high heeled shoes. Her long braided hair is accented with ribbons and sequins are her earrings.
Condition is good. The only small defect I can find is a tiny wear spot on the tip of the lady's nose.
If you favor early international dolls, this pair is among the finest.
Offers considered, except on Red Tag sale items and on items with final reductions.
