This is an early antique terra cotta baby Jesus creche figure child that is purported to have originated in South America. The figure is simply but charmingly and accurately modeled as a bald infant with kicking legs and active arms. The child has a modeled tunic as well. The surface bears evidence of many coats of paint, and considerable paint loss over time. For example the tunic is red over gold. There are mounting holes in the base of one foot and between legs.
Condition: The figure is intact but paint loss is substantial.
Despite the paint loss I find this little fellow most endearing.
