This wonderful 16" tall c. mid 1800s antique wooden artist manikin doll has been carefully dressed in the costume of a Cardinal in the Catholic Church. This costume is likely a 20th century addition, though his undershirt and stockings are from the 1800s. His clothing consists of the aforementioned antique stockings and undershirt, red wool robe and cape trimmed in black velvet and a fine white cotton surplice. He has a cap made to match his robes. He has a large cross pinned in front. There is what appears to be a museum number stitched inside his robe. This gentleman's face is personalized with painted facial hair and a receding hairline. His body is wonderfully fully jointed for posing.
Condition: There is some damage to the back of his left knee joint.
This handsome fellow would make a standout addition to your collection.
