This is a very chubby cheeked circa 1880s German blond bisque child doll made by Alt Beck & Gottschalck, marked model number 978 and size number 4. She is 15" tall. Her antique body has typical patches and old repairs. She has bisque lower arms and legs. Her right bisque leg has old repairs to a multi-piece break. I suspect she would limp due to this old injury. Her antique clothing consists of white cotton pantaloons and chemise, wool petticoat with red embroidery, a sweet cotton print dress gathered across the bodice and with lace collar, and a cotton sunbonnet to top it all off. Her bisque head is in good condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. The shoulder head is strapped onto the body with cotton cord rather than being sewn in place.
Condition: The only significant damage is to the doll's right bisque leg - see photos. Body has some patches.
This child doll has exceptionally full cheeks which makes her look like she is hiding bonbons in her mouth. Her hairstyle is uncommon, with a row of short curved bangs on her forehead, smooth over top and short curls around the perimeter of her head. She is sure to bring a smile to your face.
