This is a fine example of an antique Victorian period carved Whitby jet mourning picture locket brooch. The brooch is unmarked. It has a brass back plate with sturdy old fashioned T hinged pin stem and C clasp. The body of the brooch is a decoratively carved oval of Whitby jet with a silver frame inset to hold a loved one's image. Currently it holds the old photo that came with it, of a lovely young woman. The photo is covered by a thin sheet of celluloid that has a crack in the center, so new protective covering might be desired. The inner silver frame pries out to release the present contents and replace as desired.
This brooch measures 2.125" x 1.625" x .325" thick.
Condition: The only flaw is the celluloid covering with a crack in it.
This is a sweetly sentimental piece.
