This is a wonderful large example of a mid 1800s German china taufling baby doll with the so-called Motschmann body type. This baby is 15 inches tall. Baby's layette of clothing consists of cotton pantaloons, and slip, wool slip, cotton gown with lace trim, crocheted bonnet and socks.
Condition: There is some chipping around the shoulder plate neck socket, but no damage to actual head. One china leg has an old replacement in wood. Hip portion of torso is papier mache, which is sometimes the case. There is a squeaker inside the stomach which works, though muted because I added some stuffing. Wool slip has some moth holes. Gown has numbers stamped inside hem that might be old museum numbers.
This type of china doll is very hard to find, and rare in this large size. He hopes you can overlook his handicaps and still find him desirable.
