This is an unusual whistle head 12" tall china head doll made in Germany by Hertwig in the early 1900s. Despite her simple appearance upon first glance, this is not your run of the mill common low brow china head doll. This doll was made as a novelty by Hertwig, by adding a special feature. There is a factory made .5" hole on top of her head and another smaller .25" hole on the back of her head. Originally she would have had a metal whistle inserted into the top hole, but alas she has lost her whistle. She still has a nice original body with china lower legs and bisque hands. Her antique clothing consists of white cotton pantalettes and petticoat, blue cotton skirt and white blouse.

Condition: Her metal whistle insert is missing. There is a tight hairline on the doll's right shoulder that starts from the edge, continues approximately along the mold seam line, and then tapers off under the neck in front. The body has been discretely reenforced from the inside where the legs and 1 arm connect.

If you collect Hertwig china dolls then a whistle head doll is a must have addition to your collection.
