This is an incredibly detailed antique Chinese export brooch composed of an intricate scene carved from a nut wood and set in a sterling silver brooch setting. The setting is unmarked but tests positive for silver of sterling grade. The almond shaped carving depicts a walled village surrounded by trees and 5 people within the scene. The setting has a simple twisted rope border. The back has an old fashioned T hinged pin stem and C clasp.
This brooch measures 1.75" x 1" and is .5" thick.
Condition: As far as I can tell the carved scene is intact. It is so detailed that it is difficult to tell is some tiny portion was missing.
This miniature scene invites close inspection and marveling at the workmanship that went into its making. It is a thing of wonder.
