This dramatic large antique sterling silver brooch features 10 faceted garnet red stones that I presume to be glass or paste. There are no markings. The metal tests positive for silver content of sterling grade. The top face is decoratively engraved over all. The sides have an open filigree. The garnet stones are each set in a scalloped setting. The back has a simple long pin stem and old fashioned C clasp.
The huge brooch weighs an impressive 80 gr. or 2.8 oz. It measures 3.125" or 8 cm in diameter and almost 4mm deep on the sides. The stones are each 10mm x 20mm.
Condition is good with expected tarnish of age.
Good heavens but this brooch has imposing presence! It would look amazing worn on a coat lapel or drawing not so discrete attention to a bosom.
