This is a beautiful antique Victorian period pâte de verre molded glass cameo brooch depicting a reclining female nude accompanied by putto and birds. The cameo is securely held in a handsome setting with a toothed or dentilated border. The sturdy brooch setting has an old fashioned T hinged pin stem and C clasp. It is unmarked and the metal does not test positive for silver or gold, so is gilded brass or a Pinchbeck metal.
Condition is good. Surface dirt that I forgot to clean before photographing has readily cleaned off. I note that under magnification the tiny dog on the right has a gap in his hind leg and this is probably a very small manufacturing flaw.
This brooch measures 1.625" x .75".
This classical scene is probably a depiction of the goddess of love Aphrodite.
