This is a remarkable 12 inch tall antique Victorian period china head boy doll with original Scottish costume. The shoulder head has the short boyish kinderkoph hair style. He has his original kid leather French style body. The costume was sewn on but I carefully removed it to examine the shoulder head and body. The back of the waist of the body required a stitch or two to close up a seam that had opened up a little and was starting to leak sawdust. That is repaired now. I did not remove the kid leather portion of the body that overlaps the shoulder plate, but with close examination I believe that the shoulder plate is intact and undamaged. I replaced the clothing and have stitched it back in place as it originally was.
His Scottish garb is wonderful. There is a plain cotton tunic underneath. He has a red plaid kilt with matching shoulder scarf, pinned at the shoulder with a thistle pin. He wears a red shirt topped by a brown velvet jacket. His sporran is belted around his waist. He wears a dark blue knit cap on his head. Plaid stockings with blue silk bows on his legs and brown leather shoes complete his outfit.
Condition: The china head is in good condition with no damage. There is a smattering of kiln specks on his forehead - a manufacturing flaw. The body is in good condition, other than a seam separation at the waist that I repaired. The wool portions of the clothing have a few moth holes and the blue silk ribbons are very fragile.
If you favor antique dolls that have retained their originality, this little fellow could be just your cup of tea.
