This is a nice example of a circa 1870s German wax over papier mache doll with glass sleep eyes. This little girl has black hair with molded ringlets. She has her factory original body with composition hands and fancy lower legs. Her body is cloth stuffed with excelsior and has a wooden squeeze type voice box in the chest which is no longer working. Her pantalettes are sewn on. She has a fine factory made slip and dress. The dress has lace trim around hem, bodice and neckline.
Condition: The doll's face has typical craze lines through the wax over the face. Some of the wax coating over the back of the head is missing. Some paint has rubbed off of the shoes. The squeeze box in the chest has worn through the cloth of the torso and needs a 'chest bandage to repair it - an easy fix but I left it exposed so it could be seen.
I love to find dolls with as much originality as possible, which is so hard to find with these early dolls. This little girl is a survivor.
