This lovely 15" tall lady is a circa 1860s china shoulder head doll of the so-called Jenny Lind hair style, with soft wings of hair on each side loosely draped and gathered into a coiled bun low on the back of the head. This modeled is ascribed to Conta & Boehme, though I suspect competitors were making very much the same popular style, thus making sure identification difficult. Her aged body was disintegrating into a pile of sawdust, so it has been encapsulated in a newer cloth 'skin', though using old fabric. Her antique clothing consists of white cotton drawers and petticoat, and a wonderful purple dress in an unusual bubble print with white glass ball buttons in back.

Condition: Body has been recovered. Shoulder head has no chips, cracks or repairs. There is wear to the hair color in back, a small manufacturing defect on side of neck, another on her left cheek, and some glaze loss to the tip of her nose, and a scratch through her left eyebrow. Her right china leg has an old repair and is also speckled with dark splotches that seem to be in the glaze.

The Jenny Lind model was modeled after the popular Swedish 'nightingale' opera singer Jenny Lind, who favored a similar hairstyle.
