This is rare 900 silver cigar or cigarette cutter, pendant or fob decorated with a snake on 2 sides. It is unmarked but metal tests positive for silver content close to sterling grade and is estimated to be at least 900 silver. This would have been used on a slim cigar or cigarette as the opening is only 10mm or less in diameter, so perhaps this was for a lady smoker? It operates by pushing the top bail to one side which causes the blade to open out of one side, insert the cigar to be trimmed, then push in on the smooth round finger pad to cut and close. Trimmings fall out the opposing open side.
This piece weighs 8.77 gr. It measures 1.5" x .675".
Condition is good. It is unpolished.
This handy tool would have hung from a chatelaine or a watch chain, but it makes an equally intriguing pendant.
