This is an elegant early 1800s Empire period portrait miniature of a lady, contained under glass within a gold tone brass metal brooch . The back of the brooch is back with a woven gold colored metal woven fabric piece. There may have originally been a glass cover on the back as well. I have not opened the brooch to determine the material the portrait is painted on. The brooch has a simple C type clasp.
The lady in this portrait is especially animated, with an open mouth smile that shows her teeth - most unusual. she is also holding a fan in her right hand. She is fashionably dressed in a semi sheer pale yellow high waisted Empire gown with blue ribbon tied under the bust. She has a red wine colored short jacket with short puffed sleeves. Her hat has a high crown in front and a feather plume.
The brooch measures 1.75" x 2.125" x .25".
Condition: is over all good, but for having no glass cover on the back of the brooch.
This portrait is exceptionally engaging and happy or this lovely lady from yesteryear.
