This is an attractive antique Victorian era sterling silver brooch set with amethyst and turquoise glass stones, and in the form or a bow with dangling ends. The brooch is marked sterling 935 on the back. The back side of the brooch also has some decorative engraving, in the manner of jewels made in the Austro Hungarian region, but without an identifying hallmark I can't assign an origin. I believe the turquoise stones are glass, however the amethysts may be real stones. The upper bow portion of the brooch is in high relief with the loops of the bow standing out. The trailing ends of the bow are hinged to move freely below, and terminate in a pair of balls, each set with a turquoise. The back of this brooch has a very wide T hinged pin stem and old fashioned C clasp closure.
This brooch weighs 18.9 gr. It measures 2.875" long by 1.5" across.
Condition: There is a very neatly done old repair on the back of one hinged joint, invisible from the front. The brooch has patina and has not been cleaned to a high shine.
This brooch epitomizes old world elegance.
