This is an interesting 12" tall circa early 1900s painted cloth European doll dressed in a regional costume. I think her face was stitch molded then given a thick coat of gesso and paint to smooth it. The facial features are artistically painted. The hands are also painted cloth, and well made with individual fingers. She has blond silk floss hair arranged in braids. Her feet are shod in leather shoes that lace up the legs. Costume consists of pantaloons, petticoat, orange skirt with gold braid trim bands, green vest with orange edging, and cotton blouse. There is a pin in the back of her head that leads me to believe that she once had a hat attached there.
Condition: Some typical age discoloration. There is a stain on her skirt and right sleeve cuff.
I am a sucker for unusual well crafted cloth dolls, and she fits that description. I speculate that she might be Russian or from another eastern European country.
