This is a lovely antique late Victorian period raised micro mosaic brooch featuring a carved rose blossom in the center. I believe the rose is carved from coral. The mosaic work is otherwise tiny glass pieces set into a black glass base. The setting is gilded metal, likely pinchbeck. The back of the brooch has an old fashioned T hinged pin stem and C clasp.
Condition: I think there may be a couple of tiny pieces of glass inlay missing just below the center rose, but hard to detect. Otherwise good condition.
These inlay pieces are not set flush with the black base material. Instead they are purposefully placed to rise above that surface, giving it a 3 dimensionality. It is a beautiful gem.
