This is a magnificent pair of Stuart crystal memorial earrings dating from the Georgian period circa 1695-1705. These earrings appear to have been made by adding the sterling earring hooks at a later date. Each faceted, pink foil-backed Stuart crystal is surmounted by a illegible cypher made from gold wire. The closed back settings are unmarked sterling silver, tested and confirmed.
The earrings measure 10 mm x 10 mm square across the top octagonal bezels and 12 mm x 12mm across the lower ones. The earrings hang down 1.25" total length. Earring hooks are made from a thick wire.
Condition: Earrings are an altered form with hooks added at a later date. Loss to some of the pink foil. Small indentation in the back of one drop.
I have hung onto these wonderful early earrings on my own collection but have finally decided to part with them because the wires a little thick for me to wear comfortably. Grab them quick before I change my mind.
