This is a beautiful antique Victorian period pietra dura stone inlay brooch depicting cherry blossoms against a black background. The black slate background is inlaid with green malachite for the leaves, pale pinkish tan agate for the flowers and other unknown stone for the flower center and stems. The setting is sterling silver, unmarked but tested. It has an old fashioned T hinged pin stem and C clasp. The pin stem is steel.
This brooch measures 1.5" x 2". It weighs 19 gr.
Condition: There is some partial loss to stone inlay of the stems.
The craftsmanship that was required to do this kind of work has always impressed me. This is a fine example of pietra dura inlay work of this period.
