This is a beautiful antique 900 silver brooch set with 4 baroque natural pearls centered around a figural scene of a seated woman playing the lute to 2 winged cherubs or angels. The brooch is unmarked. The metal tests positive for silver content slightly below sterling grade and is estimated to be 900 grade silver. It has a light gold wash finish. The back has a sturdy old fashioned T hinged pin stem, curled C clasp, and a safety chain with security pin.
this substantial brooch weighs 26.2 gr. It measures 2" x 2.125".
Condition is good.
I love figural pieces. This is an especially charming scene. One little angel or putti wearing robes is holding up a scroll of music for the woman. The other little angel or cherub is naked and is peaking around the other side of the woman. The seated woman playing her lute has her hair arranged in a turban style. I believe this brooch is European but without marks can't define the source.
