This lovely lady on her lounge is a powder or trinket box from my personal collection and is pictured in my 2005 book, Bawdy Bisques and Naughty Novelties; German Bathing Beauties and Their Risqué Kin (only when taking these pictures did I realize that in my book, I had the lid on backward, so the painted black fringe was not visible!). I now have a larger version, so I am letting this beautiful box with its nubile nude go to another collector. Here’s what I say about this bathing beauty box in my book: “Sensually reclining on her chaise lounge, the lovely nude in Illustration 33-014 holds a round red object in her hand, perhaps an apple for this 1920s Eve. She is beautifully modeled from her chignon to her slender bare feet, Although she was left pure white, her detailed and colorful couch has luster light blue cushions with black tassels, a light tan frame, and a ruffled pink sham with molded tassels. The upper portion of the lounge lifts off, revealing a rectangular box that could have held powder or secreted trinkets. Of excellent china, the box is marked underneath in light green “Bavaria” and is 5.75 inches long and 4.75 inches high.
The box is in overall good condition and displays beautifully. There is some slight scattered ware or scratches on the luster cushion and there is a hair-thin tight stress line running from under the woman’s left ear, across the throat, and to the right shoulder. These flaws are visible only upon close inspection.
