These six sweet little dolls are vintage all bisque dolls made in Japan. The largest doll, a chubby bent limb baby, is 4.75 inches long and has an exceptionally appealing face. On the back he is incised "Made in Japan 5." The tallest standing toddler is 3.5 inches tall and incised on the back "Japan." His two little brothers are each 3.25 inches tall, of painted bisque, and incised "Made in Japan" and with an "A" in a circle. There are two flapper "Betty Boop" types. One is painted bisque, is 2.75 inches tall, and is incised "Japan." Her smaller sister is of white bisque with painted features, is 2.5 inches , and faintly incised "Japan" on her back. Both flappers and the tall toddler are also stamped "Japan" on the soles of their feet. These bisque babes represent a significant shift in doll history, from the period when Japan entered the doll market, pushing aside the German manufactures with their less expensive and more prolific goods. They are in overall good condition for their age, although there is scattered wear to the colors coating the painted bisque dolls.
