These two flirtatious flappers are by the Germany firm of Hertwig and Company. They are of sharp precolored bisque. Often Hertwig cold-painted its little bathing beauties and all-bisque dolls, so the coloring and features wore or washed away over the years. However, these lovely lithe little ladies have fired features, so that their coloring is as bright as the day they left the factory roughly a century ago. They are each approximately 3.25 inches long and are incised "Germany 5684" on the back bottom edge. As is typical of these nubile novelties, there is some irregularity or spotting in their coloring, the most obvious being a dark streak near the right hip of the bather in pink and a faint round mark on the right cheek of the girl in green. These factors flaws are only noticeable on very close inspection and do not distract from these cuties' charms, although they attest to their age or authenticity.
