Vintage butter churn square jar with the original cast iron hand crank and wooden paddle is in great condition. The hand crank has a handle at the top which is unusual as most of the ones you see are on the side. The gears turn smoothly and there is a wooden knob for turning. The square jar is rounded at the corners, thick and heavy. It measures 9 by 6 inches and 16 inches high with the crank and together weighs over 7 pounds. The top edge of the glass jar is rough from normal use and there are occasional trapped air bubbles and a thread-like imprint on the bottom, which apparently occurred during the glass making process. It is free of cracks and repairs. You could still make butter with this old churn if you wished. The wooden paddle has six round holes and, as mentioned, the gears turn smoothly. This is an old churn and the crank is made of cast iron with age-related patina. It has a fabulous look and would be perfect displayed in a vintage kitchen, a cabin or country store and a great addition to a collection.
