Wedgwood blue transferware Rhode Island Tercentenary Plate commemorates the 300th anniversary celebration of the State of Rhode Island in the year 1936, first edition. Centered on the plate is a stylized depiction of the seal of Rhode Island anchor with its motto, Hope. The border is filled with historical figures, buildings, and events such as the Landing of Roger Williams, Miantonomi, Canonicus, The Ann and Hope, Commander Essek Hopkins, Old Slater Mill, General Nathanial Green, Providence 1936, Gilbert Stuart, Brown University and Moses Brown. It is fully marked on the back with three impressed marks, Wedgwood, Made in England and the number RI36. It is marked Rhode Island Tercentenary, Made for Tilden-Thurber, Providence, Limited First Edition. The back also has the historical figures ye mark of Canonicus, ye mark of Miantonomi and the signature of Roger Williams and arrow mark. The marks also include Wedgwood Etruria England and a seal. The plate measures 10.50 inches diameter and the condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs. The surface is perfect with no wear or scratch marks amazing for its age of 80 years.
