Edwardian cameo 10k yellow gold hand-carved pink shell has tiny seed pearls strung on gold wire with a twist frame and folding pendant bale that swivels, antique circa 1900-10s. The carving is exquisitely well done in high relief of a lady in profile with much detail and expert workmanship. The woman has wavy hair and wears a cap on her head with curling tendrils of hair about her neck. The waffle texture garment on her shoulder suggests warrior apparel. The profile appears to depicts Juno, Queen of the Gods and ancient Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth, protector and special counselor of the state. Juno also looked after the women of Rome. Her Greek goddess equivalent was Hera. It measures 1 inch high by .75 inch wide. The pin slightly extends the pin, typical of antique pins. The cameo has no chips or cracks, the clasp and pin are in excellent working condition. It is marked 10k in two places, on the clasp and on the bale. This fabulous cameo would make a wonderful addition to a collection and beautiful to wear as a pendant necklace or decorative pin. It is diminutive yet makes a statement.
