This fabulous pin came from an extensive collection put together by a rather eccentric turn of the century lawyer from the Southern States, whom also happened to be an extensive collector of mineral & gemstones. He had hundreds of stick pins in his collection, many custom made for him expressly to display the specimens in his collection, and I believe this be one of those such pins.
Crafted in solid 14K yellow gold, and stamped as such upon the pin stem, this pin does not bear a maker’s mark, but is quite certainly handmade.
It features a beautiful deep blue lapis lazuli teardrop cabochon, bezel-set into an ornately and likely Etruscan inspired frame. The cannonball appliques and twisted wirework design is 100% unique, and undoubtedly one of a kind.
The stickpin measures 2.59” from end to end, with a top portion that measures 0.92” by 0.70”. This piece weighs 3.2 grams.
Condition is very good, with no damages or repairs.
