Dates to the Victorian era, circa 1880.
Crafted in solid 14K yellow gold. Not hallmarked, but carefully acid tested.
This striking cameo is hand carved on layered onyx agate, and features a beautiful young woman in traditional Roman form. She is claw-set into a fabulous ornate frame, which has decorative accents on both the top and bottom, and on the sides, and is finished with three dangling spear like drops at the base. (It appears that they may have originally been five drops, but two have either been lost or removed.)
The brooch measures 1.28" from side to side, and 2.81" from the top to the bottom of the middle dangle. It weighs 12.5 grams.
The back of the piece has the original steel hinge tube pin and antique C clasp, which work perfectly still.
Condition is very good, with no damages.
