Dates to the Victorian mid Victorian era, circa 1860 to 1880.
Crafted in sterling silver and 15CT gold on the top, with a 9CT gold pin shaft. Not hallmarked, but carefully acid tested.
I have never seen another stick pin like this one! I am not sure if it is in commemoration of the Boer war, or a celebration of Zulu history. All I am sure of if that it is representative of a Zulu war shield (isihlangu) and features the traditional warrior’s weapons - spears (iklwa) & knobkerries (iwisa).
The stickpin measures 3.09” from end to end, with a top portion that measures 0.82” by 0.38”. This piece weighs 2.4 grams.
Condition is very good, with no damages or repairs.
