Hunting Companions is an original oil painting on board by Ted Schuyler (American 1904- 1990). This is signed and dated '78 in the lower right corner. The art is 10 x 12 inches. The frame appears to be original to the painting. It is a gold painted wood and is 14 x 16 inches. The autumn tone colors are beautiful.
The oil painting appears to be in good condition without any crazing or restoration. There does appear to be a slight area of discoloration in the varnish above the hunter's head in the vegetation and between him and the dog. The frame has wear but adds to the rustic sense of the scene.
Ted Schuyler was born in Trinidad, CO on Nov 2, 1904, the day Teddy Roosevelt was elected, and thus his name. He later attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As with so many Western artists of his time, he joined the Taos community, painting Southwestern scenes. He died in Atlanta, GA in 1990. His works are greatly respected at auction and in galleries, though rarely offered.
