Conestoga Wagon is an original watercolor painting by the well known illustrator, Walt Howarth. This art was probably used for the John Wayne Adventure Annual, circa 1950's. This scene conjures up images of the American West during the time when the American Indian ruled the plains.
The watercolor has been glued down to a support board with a yellow banner on the right with John Wayne Adventure Annual. It is not signed. The art is 15 1/2 x 11 inches without the banner. It is framed under glass and the mat covers the banner. The brown wood frame is 21 x 16 3/4 inches. There is a very pale spot in the clouds that looks like a drop of paint, otherwise it is in good condition.
Walt Howarth (British 1928-2008) A prolific artist, the majority of his work was for World Distributors Ltd, whose annuals will be remembered for their distinctive yellow spines. From 1950-1959 he painted six John Wayne Annuals and seventy-seven John Wayne Comic covers, plus for the annuals.
