Here is a beautiful short china pitcher known as Chintz. This has a floral pattern against a black background. The rim and handle is highlighted with gold trim. The bottom is marked: Elijah Cotton Ltd, Staffordshire, England, Lord Nelson Ware, Black Beauty.
The pitcher is 4 1/4 inches tall. It measures 5 1/2 inches from the spout to the handle. The base is 3 inches in diameter. The condition is very good. There are no chips or cracks. The gold trim has very little if any wear. There is some purple on the handle that appears to be in the glaze. You can see this in the image of the handle. Light crazing can be seen in the white areas of the pitcher.
Chintz is the generic name for English china with an allover floral transfer design. It was produced in England during the first half of the 20th Century.
