We are offering another beautiful original etching by listed contemporary artist, David Hunter. "Trio" is a tranquil lakeside scene with three Canada Geese in the foreground while others are in flight. The etching was created in 1997 and is another sold out edition of his Secondary Market pieces. Secondary Market simply means that his etching edition has completely sold out. When we acquire this sold out etching and offer it for sale a second time (usually at a higher price), this creates the secondary market. The art image measures 4 1/2″ x 10″ and the paper size is 7 1/2" x 13", the piece is signed, titled and numbered #9/100 in pencil. This beautiful etching is in excellent condition and is unframed.
David Hunter, (b. 1947) a native of Central Florida, inherited his father’s interest and talent for artwork at an early age. Initially not expecting to use his talents in the art field, David majored in zoology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, coming away with both a B.A. (1969) and M.A. (1972) in that subject area and illustrating his master’s thesis with pen-and-ink drawings.
In 1972 David was a research associate in the biology department at the University of Central Florida then, after receiving his teaching certificate, taught 7th Grade Life Science and 8th Grade Physical Science for five years. In 1976 David returned to art in his spare time and participated in his first art show in 1977. Taking a year’s leave of absence from teaching in 1978 David became a full-time artist and was able to turn in his full-blown resignation from the field of teaching by the fall of that year.
Since becoming a full-time artist David has participated in art shows and competitions in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. His work appears in galleries in Florida, Alabama, Texas, North Carolina and Massachusetts. David also teaches workshops at art centers and has taught in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
Most recently David is a printmaking instructor at Crealde School of Art in Winter Park, Florida while still following his artistic pursuits on a full-time basis. David was instrumental in forming the Florida Printmakers Society in 1986, becoming its first president at that time. In 1987 Yankee Publishing Company commissioned David to etch a new cover (using the existing design) for The Old Farmer’s Almanac. David hand colored the final etching and the results appeared for the first time on the cover of the 1988 edition.
David’s work is listed in Lawrence’s Dealers Print Prices and at Askart and is included in the permanent collection of the London Maritime Museum in London, England.
