This is an exquisite hand-painted, one-of-a-kind porcelain item by Master China Painter, Margaret Surber. She has painted a beautiful scene of pine cones and branches with gold trim on pale-dark purple background. The ribbed cake plate with two handles is trimmed with 24kt gold highlights and measures 12 1/2"x 13 1/2". It is signed near the bottom left side. It has a blue stamp of on the bottom: AK underneath a crown (Alboth & Kaiser, Germany) circa 1967-1970. The condition of the plate is excellent with no chips, cracks or damage. Note: This porcelain is safe for use but it is strongly recommended that you do not put it in dishwasher.
Partial Biography: Margaret Surber (American, 1913 - 2001) won many awards for her china painting, including three ribbons at the 1963 World's Fair in Seattle. She was the president of the International China Painting Teachers Association. She also wrote several books about how to paint on porcelain.
